Centreing Indigenous Voices.

Centering Indigenous voices means shifting the frame — allowing histories to be told by those to whom they belong.

It is not an act of inclusion, but of responsibility. True reconciliation requires that Indigenous Peoples lead the telling, framing, and governance of their own histories and data.

At Birchwood Historical Research, we approach this work as allies and learners — recognizing that ethical research begins with consent, reciprocity, and respect for Indigenous data sovereignty.

To center Indigenous voices is to honor knowledge that has always been here — and to ensure that research serves the communities it represents.
